I’m back to where I belong.
Love the water and this pool so much. A pool that I had been swimming in since I was a kid in school.
The Sarawak Club was first established in 1876 and is reputedly one of the oldest private membership clubs in the whole of Malaysia. It was set up to cater for the entertainment and recreational needs of the officers of the white Rajahs that ruled the state from 1841 to 1941.
The Club has also had its share of tragedy, a fire in the early morning of 27 July 2006 where almost all of The Sarawak Club building was razed to the ground. I read the news sadly in my home far, far away. The Club was fully rebuilt within a year.
Other than my home and family in Kuching, the pool at the Sarawak Club, the restaurant with its signature homemade tofu and the Club itself is the place I miss the most whenever I leave Kuching. It’s a place in the world, a place where I belong, a place where I feel at home.
